Hello!

We have been talking about “Stress”  that has  impacted life from one to many irrespective of  age-group.

While we focus on mindfulness from November, we are here to discover teen-life & the factors that increases Stress amongst the teens.

Do you remember the time when you were a teen and life seemed difficult?

You may be a person who cannot express thoughts and emotions, or you may be an absolute extrovert who gets all the attention. Being a teen is difficult because its this time of life wherein we must perform well in academics and make some important decisions of life.

Did you ever face seclusion from a bunch of friends or got bullied at school? Humor is a great friend but when people laugh at you, its no more funny.

How was your childhood? A lot of siblings and a lot of comparison was it, like no matter how well you did it was just never enough.

Are you from a nuclear family wherein you just don’t have anyone to share your thoughts? Its always great with people where in you can just dump in the load.

You must be the lucky one with happy parents who vibe together creating a happy place for you. Or, they might have some differences for which parents suffer separation and other conflicts.

As per survey it’s found that about 50% of teens reported that covid-19 impacted their future. Stress level in teens and children have increased. During last two years shut-down / lock-down had significantly affected the lifestyle. Schools and colleges being shut, no outdoor activities, lack of social interaction and living within four walls created temple of stress in children, teens & young-adults.

Adolescence is crucial phase of life, study shares us some important facts:

  • As per record one in seven (10-19years) experiences a mental health instability. About 13% of globally suspected cases falls in this age-group.
  • Depression is a leading factor for illness and other disabilities in teens.
  • Research has confirmed 4th leading cause of death amongst young adults and teens around age-group 15-29 years-old is “Suicide”

Stress goes unrecognized and unaccepted. The first blunder is not knowing that you are stressed and then comes second when you know you are stressed but you do not do anything about it.

6 things that sparks Stress in Teens are:

Family cacophonies: Every learning starts from home and people you live with. Conflict between parents disturbs the environment and kids are the first ones to feel the uncomfort. Unrealistic expectations of parents, family creates a peer pressure for the teens. Comparison between siblings, broken relationships, other marital problems and illness in family triggers stress in teens , young adults and children.

Peer Pressure: “Your Scores “and “who is doing better than you “, thoughts, could be your killer machine. Too much performance pressure to stand out from the ordinary makes’ life hard for the teens. Pleasing parents, teachers and coping up with the competition can be real hard for them Academic stress, is another very important factor for Stress.

Social Stress: Maintaining high lifestyle and showing off happy faces are creating sad life for major teens. The competition is not healthy when its not real. Social media trolls are harming mental health of individuals. Bullying is a clear source of stress on teens.

Trauma: Whether it was a traumatic accident or a relation it takes special care to recover as the kind of stress it causes is serious illness. Molestation is very common in the adolescence age group which if not handled carefully can bring in disaster in life. A bad relationship, a bad childhood, a harsh behavior or a severe accident can flag a red-mark in your life forever. Traumatic-stress needs special treatment.

Change of Place: With every new chapter of life there are changes that we need to adapt. Teens however cannot always cope up with the lifestyle changes. Moving out to a new city, a new school, can be challenging for teens. Starting from scratch is quite a task and needs a lot of effort. Introverts struggle their way wherein for extroverts its walk on a cheese cake. But, change of place is a cause for teen-stress.

Divorce or Separation: Age is irrelevant when we talk about bonding and love between parents and children. A divorce shakes the very foundation of the bond and kids could be the most effected. Seeing conflicting parents and living in a unhealthy environment may block the flow of mental development in teens. It causes stress.

You and your teenager can create a beautiful life.
