Ahh! Winter’s around the corner, the breeze cool weather and the super calm environment – are you already being lazy couching under your blanket or are you motivated enough for the hustle.

This is for all the teens whose exams are tolling at the door-steps.

I have seen teens admitting the fact that they are being “lazy too study” but they don’t want to feel that way and need motivation for the same. To find out “what’s it making you lazy” have you ever tried self-questioning your feelings? To give an example when a flower doesn’t bloom, do we blame the flower or we check for the reasons it’s not blooming. We see the environment that is not letting the flower bloom. We try & fix the soil, lighting and water supply broadly make environmental changes so that it helps the flower to bloom.

Similarly, laziness is a concept based on your situation and environment. Sometime it also depends on the people you are associated with. The unique feature of laziness is it attracts attention that people pray against it. No one likes to be lazy – do you agree?

To focus on the core topic of studying, let’s have a true opinion and self-analysis with the help of the below questions;

  • What do you like studying?
  • Which time of the day do you feel active enough to study?
  • Do you have a favorite subject?
  • Do you love reading books?
  • Does studying only happen at school?
  • What’s the most fun you’ve had while studying?
  • Are you a person who have a hard time memorizing? or are you a quick learner?
  • Do you love learning about new things? Or you are closed person who doesn’t want to know further?
  • Are you studying only to achieve score or for your knowledge?
  • Do you believe in yourself that you can do better than now or you have given up?
  • What are the subjects that makes you sleepy?
  • Which are the subjects that freaks you out?
  • Do you feel lazy only while studying or is it the same when you are doing other stuff? Like you are genuinely a lazy person?
  • Do you feel inspired to study?

If you have already answered the questions that means you are “inspired” to study and want to make improvement on your lazy nature.

It reminds me of my school days when 7am was early and lazy for me from Mon-Fri but the same 7am was cheerful on a Sat-Sun. Why? From Mon-Fri there was a fixed routine wherein I needed to attend school and I was expected to study, do home-works & achieve good scores. But Saturday & Sunday were the free days where I decided to choose my study time and my playtime.  Often when you are burdened with fixed schedules you may feel lazy to do the same thing on repeat & lose the focus. Changing patterns in schedules can help in gaining interest & energy to study. You can make a schedule but be too lazy to follow, so let the morning decide the day!

Studying only for marks is equivalent to doing nothing, because in the end if you cannot recall, “who was the first person to step on the moon?” or “how did the earth form?” or “what are the Newton’s law”, you may not understand life at all. Also studying only to gain marks is boring, a 10/10 & 90% cannot justify the knowledge that you gain. They are just one-time numbers so to overcome laziness for studying – you need to aspire to be knowledgeable, to know the science, history, geography and the very biology of our existence. It’s a gradual process of developing interest to learn.

Focus on what you like learning about, the time of the day you are open to gasp the information & develop the habit of reading. It may happen that you were not ready yet but do you stop fighting? Like the storm in the ocean the waves struggle to stand high and fails repeatedly but have you ever seen an ocean run out of waves? It’s always there. Similarly, till the time we succeed we need to rise up & move against the tide, fight the laziness & motivate towards knowing the unknown. You will automatically find subjects are easy as you are now inspired to learn not just to memorize, dump in the test and forget.

10th & 12th board results do not necessarily define the skills you have, and the knowledge you have gathered. Neither do they determine your success. It is your will, your knowledge, your skills that matters on the longer run.

Too lazy now may bring in hardship in future but a little hustle & dedication today can create a beautiful future.

So, choose wisely – lazy to study? or Inspired to study?
